Where could you ever find a beautiful piano made during.the presidency of Abraham Lincoln (1863). At the time of this piano's manufacturing, Chickering was noted to be the finest piano manufacturer in the world. It is recorded that President Lincoln had two Chickerings in the White House. Unfortunately, all records of these pianos were destroyed in the White House fire of 1929. The grandness of this piano cabinet, the date of manufacturing of 1863, and the location where it was found, certainly could support a theory that this was one of those pianos. Needless to say, even without that documentation, this is a grand piano that can stand on its own merits. The hand crafted design work on the cabinetry far surpasses anything created today.  Chickering craftsmen were constantly given offers by Steinway and others to leave Chickering, without success. Mr. Chickering treated them so well they were an unbreakable family unit.  They were the worlds finest piano craftsmen.
There is some sun fading noticeable when the top is closed, however, in its open position the rare rosewood finish is beautiful. This is a marvelous centerpiece for any large room. With the pianist sitting at the piano, the space required must be at least twelve feet and of course a depth of six feet. As my time allows, I will take more photos with a new camera that has more pixcels.
